STOP  PRESS – we’ve just learned that the pub will be doing meals from 7pm, which might well be useful to anyone who is staying through to the evening!

Saturday evening

An atmospheric and old-fashioned social evening at Frittenden’s Memorial Hall from 7.30pm including songs, music from the Horsmonden Wednesday night Traditional Music Class and friends, old-fashioned dances led by Rosie Davis, and party games, entry £7/£4

Saturday afternoon
•Tunes and songs at 12 noon at the Bell & Jorrocks featuring Frittenden session regulars, guests and friends

•Stepdancing with Kerry Fletcher and Rosie Davis at the Memorial Hall 2.30–4.00pm, entry £2.50/£1.50

•Learn old fashioned dances (eg, The Veleta, The St Bernard’s Waltz, The Heel & Toe Polka), Memorial Hall 4.30–6.00pm, entry £2.50/£1.50

Frittenden 2011 – an Old Fashioned Night Out

Frittenden Old-Fashioned Night Out

26th–27th March 2011

Tunes and songs from guests at 12 noon at the Bell & Jorrocks 26th March•  Afternoon workshops at the Memorial Hall on stepdancing and old-fashioned dancing led by Kerry Fletcher and Rosie Davis (learn the Veleta, the Palais Glide and the St Bernard’s Waltz) • An atmospheric and old-fashioned social evening at the Memorial Hall including songs, games, music and old-fashioned dancing to the music of the Gun & Spitroast traditional music class, friends and guest artists (tickets will be available from the village shop) • The end of the month free B&J session on the Sunday evening with special guests Peta Webb and Ken Hall • Invited weekend performers include Will Duke, Andy Turner, Annie Dearman and Steve Harrison, and Peter Collins.

Artists at Frittenden, Rosie Davis, Traditional and old fashioned songs, dances and tunes in mid-Kent

2011 – Rosie Davis, singer, stepdancer and festival organiser

Rosie Davis was born in Woolton near Liverpool, and has been singing and dancing from the age of three years. She became interested in folk music in her teens and developed an interest in Old Time Music and Bluegrass, playing and singing at home with her two older brothers.

Rosie has been instrumental in the development of freestyle Appalachian step-dancing in the UK from the early 1980s, performing and giving workshops at many high profile festivals here and in Europe. As a respected musician, as well as an entertainer, her love and understanding of traditional music underpins the way she teaches and dances.

Most recently she has been developing her interests in Southern English step dancing and European social dance, and singing for dancing.

Rosie plays with string band Old Faded Glory in East Sussex as well as performing solo at folk clubs, with Dave Arthur and Pete Cooper in Dance-tales, with Sisters Unlimited and Jig Jaw. She has been a member of several celebrated Bluegrass bands and plays autoharp, banjo, bass and feet – not all at the same time and is much demand as a dance caller. Rosie’s instruction book and music for dancing, Karaoke Cloggin’, is available on CD.

We’re also delighted to have her as one of the organisers of the Frittenden Festival – Sing, dance and play.
